Khiva Silk Workshop

Khiva Silk Workshop is described as a gift and speciality shop amongst travellers and visitors. The first goal of the workshop is to make beautiful silk carpets and suzannies using natural dyes and reviving traditional designs, and to provide the poor with income generation and skills training. The silk workshop values ethical principles and is committed to punctually paying equal wages and contributing money back to the workshop. The workshop can be found by coming from the Ota Darvaza which is the main tourist gate and following the main street, past the Kalta Minor and the music Madrassah, afterwards turn right. After a 30 minute walk, on your left is the carpet workshop.

Allakuli Khan Tim Market

Allakuli Khan Tim Market serves as a trading area, however now it is more to souvenirs. The Allakuli Khan Tim Market is situated in the eastern part of the old town, between the Allakuli Khan madrassah and Allakuli Khan caravanserai. It has a gateway to the west and east. In the passageway shared with Toshhovli palace is the western entrance. From the west entrance, you will see numerous domes will be seen on the roof, 12 small ones and 2 large ones. When browsing through the souvenirs, to understand the brilliant building methods used almost 200 years ago, take a peek at the light coming from the domes. At either end, the front of the building has brick columns that have a decorative pattern under the cap. Small recessed arches that are painted white at the top are on either side of the columns. With the added advantage of souvenir shopping at the Tim, this is a place of considerable significance in the history of the old town, and is definitely worth a visit.

Itchan Kala

Itchan Kala is considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Centre and is one of the many popular main tourist attractions in Khiva. The old town retains more than 50 historic monuments and 250 old houses, dating primarily back from the 18th or 19th centuries. Ichan Kala's most striking characteristics are its crenellated brick walls and four entrances, one on either side of the rectangular castle. While the foundations are thought to have been laid in the 10th century, mainly in the late 17th century, 10-metre-high walls were erected today and later restored.
